Drum: A Versatile Architectural Lighting Fixture

Minimalistic Design Inspired by Natural Daylighting

Designed by Rubén Saldaña of Arkoslight, Drum is a remarkable architectural lighting fixture that draws inspiration from the minimalistic design of historical examples of natural daylighting in architecture. From the classical lighting of the Panteon 'Oculus' to the neutral and homogeneous light of Alvar Aalto's architecture, Drum captures the essence of these designs and brings it into contemporary spaces.

What sets Drum apart is its large dimension recessed light, surface, or suspended options, offering a major luminous flux and the ability to be unhooked from the ceiling as desired. This versatility allows Drum to adapt to each specific placement and application. The fixture is dimmable, enabling users to adjust the light volume to meet their specific needs.

Formally, Drum's design is expressed in a circular strip, slightly arched towards the center, and with a minimum bezel. This design ensures perfect light diffusion across the entire illuminated surface, creating a seductive effect of natural light clarity. The neutral and homogeneous light dispersion was achieved through the development of a tailor-made solution for Drum's PCB, allowing it to reach up to 16,100Lm with a perfect light presence in the whole lighted surface of the fixture.

Drum is made using self-designed LED PCB, aluminum, and PMMA materials. It comes in two sizes: Drum 70 (120mmX700mm) weighing 10.5kg and Drum 90 (120mmX900mm) weighing 16kg. Both sizes offer a high luminous flux, with Drum 70 providing up to 8,050Lm and Drum 90 offering up to 16,100Lm.

Recognized for its outstanding design, Drum was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
